The Worlds squad headed to D.C. this weekend to debate at the US Universities Eastern Regional Championship. Spirits were high despite the eight-hour bus journey, and every team headed into the competition ready to conquer!
After 4 preliminary rounds, 4 teams from Cornell broke to elimination rounds, comprising a quarter of the break. The teams of Brittany Garcia and Rubin Danberg-Biggs, and Daniel Stoyell and Safwan Jalal made it to the finals, beating out over 70 other teams at the tournament. The teams of Alex Chakrin and Justin Liu, and Aniroodh Ravikumar and Emma Rose Wirshing finished as semifinalists and quarterfinalists respectively.
Cornell also came home with speaker awards: in the Open division, Dan placed 3rd, Safwan placed 6th, and Emma Rose placed 9th. In the Novice division, Aniroodh took the top speaker award, and Denny Lee placed 4th.
